The Art of Successful Grant Writing Workshops, Institutes & Graduate Course
Kate was very instrumental in developing the (1.4M) federal grant that the Union 61 schools received for Social Emotional Learning…She has facilitated several trainings in the Tantasqua district over the years focused on grant writing…Learning is not just academic for participants, but hands-on. Kate leads folks through search for funding sources, performing needs assessment, collating data streams for planning and then developing a grant proposal. In the current educational environment, there is no such thing as a district having enough professionals who are conversant with grant writing. I’m told that within the current federal stimulus packages there are dollars for any initiative a district may have—the catch is having a knowledgeable individual who can find their way through the morass of paperwork. Ms. Angilly’s course provides just that kind of guidance to its participants. Her course is definitely the right content, offered at the right time and in an engaging way. Katie Fitzgerald, Seligman District #40 Superintendent former TR&U61 Assistant Superintendent

Grant Writing Services - We here at MIHN are so grateful to you for providing us with such a wonderful grant when we recently responded to a Request for Response that was published by the Dept of Housing and Community Development. As you know we have been sheltering homeless families for the past seven years and during that time have become quite versed in grant writing. Our success speaks for itself but when faced with the daunting task of applying for that RFR we knew we were out of our league. You were the answer to our prayer. Not only did you write an extremely comprehensive and well thought out grant response but you also are one of the nicest persons that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. This grant had so many convolutions that I was completely confused just by reading the request. I know I must have driven you crazy with my frequent calls and e-mails of concern but you always got back to me right away and had a certain knack for explaining things to me and calming my fears. All of us here at MIHN owe you a debt of gratitude. Your work won us the largest single grant award that we have ever received. I can’t thank you enough and I will advise all of my associates in the nonprofit sector about the good work that you did for us. I will be in touch; I have another big one on the horizon. Kate, it was such a pleasure to work with you; wishing you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Sincerely, Arthur Heusser - Executive Director, Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network

Ms. Angilly demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the grant writing process and articulated that knowledge very well to the staff participating in the training. Ms. Angilly provided hands-on assistance with the staff with modeling for grants that each individual staff was working on. Staff was provided with practical and useful resources that were relevant to any grant area that was being investigated. Instruction that was given had an immediate impact on actions that staff could take, meaning there were real life results to this instruction… Jody O’Brien, Administrator of Special Needs

The practical knowledge that Kate offered is very specific to the many different types of proposals that we write, to fund the many different aspects of the work we do. We know the work we do changes lives, and Kate helped us present this in such a way that grant makers will know this too. This workshop got to the heart of what reviewers are looking for and has given me increased confidence in the presentation of the work we do.
Grant Writing Services - After attending Kate’s grant writing workshop SIHN decided to enlist her grant writing services for many proposals. We enjoyed working with her and found her style to be exactly what we were looking for. She took the time to meet with us extensively to get to know our programs and catered her services to our needs. The proposals were easy to read and we received rave reviews from grant evaluator committees. I have read many of the grants that were submitted previously for our organization and the proposals that Kate wrote for us had a professional look and layout that we have used for many presentations and proposals since. Kate has a strong understanding of what proposal evaluators are looking for and how to present the information in a concise and easy to read manner. Her services have increased our ability to raise money through the grant writing process.
Connecting with grant makers and foundations can be difficult as a small organization. In December 2009, Kate introduced us to the idea of writing 16 Letters of Intent to foundations who may be interested in supporting our organization. After Kate generated a two page letter of intent outlining our organizations goals and achievements I sent the letter to many foundations. Her knowledge of our organization and previous proposal work meant our letters stood out to grant makers and their representatives. Outcomes to date - a cash donation and request to submit full proposals to foundations.

This class was very worthwhile as an administrator in today’s economy. Through her teaching and guidance I wrote and received a grant that enables me to provide music therapy to the autistic students attending Charlton Elementary School. Receiving this grant was directly a result of the fine teaching of Ms. Angilly. Not only did I receive this grant as a result of her teaching, I gained the skills necessary and the confidence needed in writing other grants. Ms. Angilly provided resources to help in a well organized binder that I have kept and can refer to when writing other grants.

“The Art of Successful Grant Writing” taught the skills needed to read grants, understand what information is required, research, and create a proposal that is organized, clear, and measurable. Ms. Angilly’s teaching style was inspiring. She included many examples of her work as well as other grants and an extensive reference manual. The proposal that was created from the course and was funded resulted in students with Autism Spectrum disorders, learning, emotional, and behavioral problems receiving materials and instruction on strategies that promote attention, social skills, and coping skills. In addition, the education that I received from the grant is being passed on to staff through professional development. It is a gift that will keep on giving to students. Thank you, Susan Guertin, Occupational Therapist

I am having my students write their own grant applications to fund environmental action projects. I created a grant foundation and I'm walking them through writing a grant. They've come up with some fantastic ideas and I'm hoping to implement them in the next few years. Since most of my students in this particular class will be going into the workforce in the next couple of years, grant writing will be an invaluable skill for them to have! Thanks for the inspiration, Amy Willard, Tantasqua Regional Teacher

Kate Angilly’s “The Art of Successful Grant Writing” was a course that will be helpful to me in repeatedly obtaining funding for various projects in my future. Ms. Angilly was most knowledgeable in the process of what it takes to write a successful grant that would be awarded funding for one’s particular field of interest. She gave us step-by-step instructions of this process in a concise, precise and easy to follow manner. Each student received individual hands-on assistance, useful and practical information, and special advice pertinent to each student’s needs The manual used for the course was exceptionally well-written and the material was organized to provide each person with the fundamentals of writing, the needs assessment process, and an extensive listing of resources to aid anyone in their search to find sources of funding for almost any area of interest. Examples of successfully written grants were part of the materials distributed. Ms. Angilly was a very engaging speaker and was filled with useful tips from her own experience and grant awards. I would highly recommend any person looking for a course that seeks to strengthen their ability to reach given project‘s financial goals through grants to enroll in Ms. Angilly’s class. I guarantee you will be most satisfied. Sue Ann Canty, Coordinator of Volunteers at St. Anthony’s Parish

I have been fortunate in learning the steps of grant writing from Kate (Angilly). After taking her course, I became more confident and applied for several community service learning grants which allowed me to complete health related projects for my school community as well as for our district. I was able to assist in writing a large grant for character education and most recently wrote a nutrition grant with her assistance for a salad line at our school. The students and staff were thrilled to have the addition of salads to our school lunch and we have been able to sustain this program during a time when obesity is a national concern. Kate also was instrumental in writing a grant to support a district wide AED program this year. As a district we are proud to have AED units in each of our schools to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students, staff and community members who regularly use our schools for activities…I am impressed with her ability to assist with a variety of projects. During one class she assisted with project ideas ranging from a new tennis court, bee hive business, a sabbatical to Europe for intensive art and history education, dental clinic development and equipment for art classes to name a few. I actually reapplied to the Verizon Champions of Literacy Grant and was lucky enough to be named a 2009 MA. Champion of Literacy. The district will receive $1,500.00 for professional development, and I receive $1,000.00 for professional development of my own choosing. Thank you for all your help. I gained a lot of experience in Kate’s (Angilly) Grant Writing (15 hour - 1 college credit) Institute. I was impressed by her organization of the institute especially the binder that was handed out. It included many sources that could be used to find grants to write as well as copies of grants that Kate herself had written. During the institute I wrote a grant to Target to fund a kindergarten fieldtrip. Kate was helpful during and after the institute ended by reading my final application. I received the grant as well as many free supplies for my classroom. I thank Kate for her patient, approachable teaching style in addition to her abundance of experience. The institute and grant writing was an enjoyable rewarding experience for me.
